La Calonica

GIRIFALCO
GRAPES: 85% SANGIOVESE, 5% MERLOT
 
 

The Wine: The Girifalco is made of a perfect blend of 85% Sangiovese and 5% Merlot.  The grapes are hand-picked. After going through maceration with selected yeasts added, they are transferred into vitrified vats for a period of 15 days, at temperatures ranging from 72o to 76o F.  The must is separated from the skins and put through a soft pressing. It is then decanted into stainless steel tanks, where it will rest for at least 2 months. The aging process takes place in oak barriques for approximately 12 months. The wine is then bottled and released on the market 6 months later.

Tasting Notes: La Calonica Girifalco is a ruby red wine with violet hues; an intense fruity bouquet with aromas of vanilla, blackberries and a touch of oak combines with a hint of cherry flavor.  Dry, full bodied, well balanced on the palate offering a remarkable, satiny, persistent finish.  This versatile wine is best enjoyed with Polenta, Risotto with Wild Mushroom Sauce, Grilled Red Meats or Roasted Wild Game. 

VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO RISERVA

GRAPES: 90% SANGIOVESE, 10% MERLOT

 
 

The Wine: The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva is made of 90 % Sangiovese and 10% Merlot. After undergoing the fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, the must is separated from the skins and softly pressed. It is then transferred in medium oak barrels and barriques where it ages for 36 months. Before being released on the market, it is refined in bottle for 6 months.

Tasting Notes: La Calonica Vino Nobile di Montepulciano Riserva has an intense ruby red color. The nose expresses a variety of floral and fresh fruit aromas and develops an intense bouquet of vanilla, blackberries and a touch of oak spice combined with a hint of cherry flavor. Smooth, full bodied, well balanced on the palate offering a remarkable, satiny, persistent finish. This delightful versatile wine is best enjoyed with pastas with savory creamy sauces, grilled red meats, roasted wild game such as Spice Loin of Venison with Cranberry Sauce or with aged cheeses. 

ROSSO DI MONTEPULCIANO

GRAPES: 80% SANGIOVESE, 20% CANAIOLO

 
 

The Wine: The grapes are hand-picked; then after going through maceration with selected yeasts added, they are transferred into vetrified concrete vats for a period of 8 to 10 days, at temperatures controlled. The must is then separated from the skins and softly pressed. The wine is then decanted into big oak barrels where it ages for approximately 5 months. Once bottled, it refines for 2 months before being released on the market.

Tasting Notes: La Calonica Rosso di Montepulciano has a ruby red color with purple hints; an intense fruity bouquet with aromas of cherries, blackberries and a touch of oak spice combines with a slight touch of creamy vanilla flavor.  Dry, full bodied, well balanced on the palate offering a silky, persistent finish. This delightful wine is best enjoyed with pastas with savory creamy sauces, grilled white meats, roasted duck or with soft cheeses. 

SANGIOVESE “CALCINAIO”

GRAPES: 85% SANGIOVESE, 15% SYRAH

 
                       
 

The Wine: This wine is made of 85% Sangiovese and 15% Syrah grapes carefully handpicked and selected. The must ferments in stainless steel vats and the maceration lasts 10 days at controlled temperature. The wine ages in barriques and medium oak barrels for a short period of time. It is then bottled and released on the market approximately 3 months later.

Tasting Notes: La Calonica “Calcinaio” owes its name to the spectacular church of Santa Maria delle Grazie al Calcinaio in Cortona. It shows a vivid ruby red color and offers an intense fruity bouquet with a striking combination on the palate of ripe raspberries, plum and vanilla. Dry, full bodied, well rounded and well balanced; a wine to be enjoyed with pasta with savory sauces, roasted meats and aged cheeses. 

VINO NOBILE DI MONTEPULCIANO
GRAPES: 95% SANGIOVESE, 5% CANAIOLO
 
 

The Wine: The Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is made of 95 % Sangiovese, 5% Canaiolo. The grapes are carefully selected and hand-picked in mid-October. After undergoing the fermentation in temperature controlled stainless steel tanks, the must is separated from the skins and softly pressed. It is then transferred in medium oak barrels and barriques where it ages for more than 24 months. Before being released on the market, it is refined in bottle for 4 months
