FEUDO DI MEZZO

GRAPES: NERELLO MASCALESE E NERELLO CAPPUCCIO

 

The Wine: Feudo di Mezzo is the name of the area where the grapes are grown. It is made of Nerello Mascalese and a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio grapes carefully selected and handpicked in the last week of October. After the soft pressing of the grapes, the maceration takes place with the skins for 13 days. The fermentation is conducted with natural native yeast, for usually 8 days. The wine is then refined for approximately 18 months in used French oak barriques and 6 additional months in bottle before being placed on the market. About 1000 bottles are produced each year.

Tasting Notes: Feudo di Mezzo has an intense ruby red color with purple hues. It offers lovely balance and integration, with supple tanninis and lightly juicy acidity framing layers of crushed blackberry and plum fruit, accented by notes of aromatic dry herbs and hints of ground anise and espresso. An elegant and fresh wine with good structure and persistence. 

NERINA

GRAPES: CARRICANTE 70 % - CATARRATTO, MINNELLA, INZOLIA, GRECANICO, CODA DI VOLPE

 

The Wine: The wine is made of Carricante grapes and a small percentage of Catarratto, Minnella, Inzolia, Grecanico and Coda Di Volpe grapes, carefully selected and handpicked during the first half of October. After the pressing of the grapes, the maceration takes place with the skins for a period of 24 hours. The fermentation in used French oak with indigenous yeasts last 15 days. The wine is then refined for 6 months in used oak barriques and two in stainless steel tanks. Their first vintage bottled was 2010. About 6,000 bottles were produced.

Tasting Notes: Nerina features a delicate yellow color with golden hues, revealing the presence of other grapes in addition to Carricante. The nose is refined and delivers floral and fruity notes. In particular, this wine has an intense fruity bouquet with aromas of citrus and apricot and, at the same time, a reflection of the minerals and ash in Etna’s volcanic soils. Serve chilled is a perfect match for grilled fish and poultry, risotto, and dinner salads. 

SAN LORENZO

GRAPES: NERELLO MASCALESE

 

The Wine: San Lorenzo is the name of the area where the grapes are grown. It is made of Nerello Mascalese grapes and a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio, carefully selected and handpicked between the end of October and the first week of November. After the soft pressing of the grapes, the maceration takes place with the skins for 13-15 days. The fermentation with natural yeasts is conducted stainless steel tanks, without controlled temperature.. The wine is then refined for 16 - 18 months in used French oak barriques. It rests 6 additional months in bottle before being placed on the market. Their first vintage bottled was 2005. About 7,500 bottles were produced.

Tasting Notes: San Lorenzo has an intense ruby red color. It has a fruity bouquet with notes of cherry, aromatic herbs and hints of vanilla and tobacco. On the palate it is soft, full-bodied with gentle tannins. This wine is a perfect match for pasta with savory sauces, lamb, roasted turkey and aged cheeses. 

A’ RINA

GRAPES: NERELLO MASCALESE 95 %– NERELLO CAPPUCCIO 5%


The Wine: The word “A’Rina” in Sicilian dialect means “sand”. The wine is made of Nerello Mascalese grapes and a small percentage of Nerello Cappuccio grapes carefully selected and handpicked during the month of October. After the soft pressing of the grapes, the maceration takes place with the skins for a period of 8-10 days. The fermentation with natural yeasts is conducted in stainless steel tanks, without controlled temperature, for a period of about 8- 10 days. The wine is then refined for approximately 12 months, 50% in used French oak barriques and 50% in cement tanks. Their first vintage bottled was 2005. About 30,000 bottles were produced.

Tasting Notes: A’Rina has an intense ruby red color. It has an intense fruity bouquet with aromas of cherry and plum and with hints of leather and tobacco. A sophisticated wine, full-bodied, gentle tannins with a harmonious long silky finish on the palate. This wine is a perfect match for pasta with savory sauces, roasted meats and cheeses. 

FEUDO

GRAPES: NERELLO MASCALESE

The fermentation is conducted with natural yeast in stainless steel tanks, without controlled temperature, for usually 8 days. The wine is then refined for approximately 16/18 months in used French oak barriques and 6 additional months in bottle before being placed on the market. Their first vintage bottled was 2006. About 6000 bottles were produced.

Tasting Notes: Feudo has an intense ruby red color with purple hues. It offers an intense fruity bouquet with notes of cherry and wild berries and hints of aromatic herbs. An elegant and fresh wine with good structure and persistence. This wine pair well with pasta dishes with savory sauces, roasted meats, game and aged cheeses. 

ETNA ROSATO

GRAPES: 100% NERELLO MASCALESE

 

The Wine: Etna Rosato is made of Nerello Mascalese grapes carefully selected and handpicked during the month of October from the eighty years old San Lorenzo vineyard. After the crushing of the whole grapes, the maceration takes place with the skins for 4 hours. The vinification is conducted with indigenous yeasts in stainless steel tanks at a low temperature for 20 days. The wine is then refined in steel tanks for 5 months. It is refined in bottles for one month before being released onto the market. Their first vintage bottled was 2013. About 5,000 bottles were produced.

Tasting Notes: Etna Rosato is a fabulous rose’ that opens to a cranberry pink color and offers pretty aromas of white cherry and wild strawberry. The mouth feel is tonic, mineral-driven and crisp. This wine pairs wonderfully with shellfish, grilled fish and pork.
