Armosa

SICLYS

GRAPES: 100% Nero d’Avola

The Wine: ‘Siclys’ takes its name from the commune of Scicli where the winery is located.  It is a wine that does not betray the usual characteristics of the nero d’avola experience, but it does have some uniqueness.  It is a full-bodied wine which passionately embraces the palate and then reveals the illusion of syrup of forest fruits.  It can be enjoyed with elaborate or simple meals.  The vines are upwardly trained on vertical trellis’, and spurred cordon pruning is used.  Fermentation is in control-temperature stainless steel tanks with a long maceration of 20 days on the skins.  It is aged for 6 to 8 months in French oak barriques and for 4 to 6 months in bottle.

Tasting Notes: Siclys has an intense ruby color, a full and complex nose of black cherry, spice, and carob.  The palate shows notable personality, closing with soft and persistent tannins on the finish.  Best served in a large glass with elaborate meat dishes, game, or aged cheeses.

SALIPETRJ

 GRAPES: 100%  Moscato Bianco

The Wine: ‘Salipetrj’ is made from 100% Moscato Bianco grapes.  Its name is derived from the area of rock and minerals (‘pietra salata’) where the vineyards are located.  It is an unconventional moscato bianco, the result of concentrating more on the grape variety itself while keeping the typical white wine-making process in the background, thus rediscovering and enhancing the varietal’s aroma profiles and integrity.  The grapes are harvested in the early morning and immediately transported to the winery to be pressed.  Fermentation takes place in small stainless steel tanks at a controlled temperature.  After a few days of maceration on the skins, it is drawn off the lees and left to settle naturally for the winter.  In late spring it is bottled without being filtered which enhances the varietal’s characteristic even further.

Tasting Notes: Salipetrj Moscato pairs well with any type of dessert, particularly sweet pastries.  It can also be enjoyed with fresh fruit or fruit-based desserts and sugar-coated almonds

CURMA

 GRAPES: 100% Nero d’Avola

The Wine: ‘Curma’ is made from a selection of nero d’avola grapes harvested in the Curma vineyards which are flattened dunes located near the sea.  The soil is sandy and has a presence of limestone.  The vines are upwardly trained on vertical trellis’, and spurred cordon pruning is used. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel, temperature-controlled tanks with a maceration on the skins of 20 to 25 days.  The wine is aged in French oak barrels for 18 months and then in bottle for another 4 to 6 months.  Curma represents the “cru” of ArmosA.

Tasting Notes: The color is a rich, ruby red with complex aromas of dark berries, cherries, and plum that finish with balsamic and spicy notes.  It has a well-balanced softness and the presence of strong, elegant tannins.  Best served in a large glass with elaborate meat dishes, game, or aged cheeses.
